Mackie On Removing His “Captain America” Cowl

At the end of Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson embraces his Captain America persona and straps into a white and blue winged outfit complete with a white half-cowl.

Having a “half-helmet look,” the cowl covered the lower part of his head, leaving room for his face, ears and eyes to stick through. In the new “Captain America: Brave New World,” the suit and goggles are back, but the cowl is notably absent.

Speaking with IGN, the “Twisted Metal” actor says the cowl was removed from at his request because it proved a “nightmare” to wear and use – causing all sorts of practical problems such as fogged up goggles:

“I told them that I was never wearing that s— again, dude. That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”

Sam Wilson also gets a more traditional looking blue, silver and red Captain America suit, albeit with wings, for a good chunk of the movie which is set to hit cinemas this Friday.

Check out a new extended one-minute TV spot for the film below.
