HBO is reportedly developing the hourlong dramedy series “The Band” starring Ben Stiller. This would mark only his second TV series starring role after his self-titled sketch show in the 1990s.

Media Res and Stiller’s Red Hour Films (“Severance,” “The Morning Show”) are developing the project which hails from “Search Party” creators Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers.

The story reportedly offers an inside look at the music industry and follows Oscar (Stiller), a Simon Cowell-esque pop impresario and talent mogul beset by scandal.

He is tasked with forming a new act, a boy band, in order to save his career and perhaps his soul. Cowell famously created one of the biggest boy bands ever made – One Direction.

Bliss and Rogers will serve as showrunners and executive produce with Stiller, John Lesher, Savan Kotecha, Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer.

Stiller is a director in addition to executive producer on “Severance” and will appear on screen this year in sporting comedies – the golf-themed “Happy Gilmore 2” and the pickleball-themed “The Dink”.
