Though it didn’t quite make its March 6 release date, Senscape’s long-awaited horror adventure title Asylum is finally out now on Steam and GOG.com. The Steam version currently has a 10% discount on now until March 20.
Asylum was announced way back in 2010, and is the spiritual successor to the cult classic Scratches. This first-person horror adventure is crafted in the grindhouse style of 80s horror (including its soundtrack), drawing inspiration from H. P. Lovecraft’s stories, the iconic gothic style of Hammer Films, and the twisted horror legacy of Lucio Fulci. As the description states on the Steam page, the game is “the kind of slow-burning horror with an old-school sensibility that creeps upon you.”
Asylum casts players into the hallucinatory setting of the Hanwell Mental Institute. As an ex-patient suffering bizarre visions, you must explore the intricate layout of the building, research its past history, and march towards a shocking conclusion. The game aims for a gripping journey filled with mystery, puzzles, and an ambiance that will keep players on edge throughout its 15 hours of gameplay. Asylum aims to be a slow-burning horror experience, designed to chill rather than shock, with only a few “carefully placed” scares.
