The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze S.A. – GTL S.A.) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has concluded another investment comprising the infrastructure expansion program for 2024-2032. The first stage of the construction of a new car park – designation “P5” – has ended; it is located in the south-eastern part of the airport, facing the aircraft maintenance area. Car Park P5 is fully illuminated, and equipped with advanced parking and monitoring systems. The new infrastructure is connected with Car Park P4, which was put into service in June 2024. GTL S.A. provides free transfer to passenger terminals for customers of both car parks. As part of the first stage of the construction of Car Park P5, 863 new parking spaces were put into use, thus increasing the current total available number of spaces at Katowice Airport to approx. 6.7K.
The Katowice Airport investment program for 2024-2032 includes, among others, a considerable expansion of the airport’s car park offer; currently, the design process for expansion of Car Park P1 to the west, resulting in further 400 new parking spaces, is underway. In summer 2024, the first stage of construction of Car Park P4 concluded; in January 2025, the second stage commenced, which will result in 496 new parking spaces. Car Park P5 will also be expanded; in the first quarter of 2026, 1 000 new spaces will be put into use.
“In the upcoming years, we will consistently develop our parking offer, not only in terms of outdoor car parks. We plan to have a multi-storey car park next to the central passenger terminal. By 2032, we want to manage approx. 13K parking spaces,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group.
Expansion of car parks is only one part of the Katowice Airport expansion program for 2024-2032. The program aims to strengthen infrastructure of the airport in three already existing areas, i.e. related to passenger traffic, aircraft maintenance, and cargo operations. The most important part of the program is the construction of a new, central passenger terminal with accompanying infrastructure. Up until 2032, GTL S.A. also plans to carry out a big expansion of car parks, as well as construction of a multi-storey one. Furthermore, a second cargo terminal will be built at Katowice Airport, as well as a new base for the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting unit. Currently, construction of hangar H4 and a new base for airport maintenance departments is underway. As part of the investment program, new infrastructure will be built, one which allows to enter a new, fourth area of activities, i.e. storage and distribution of aviation fuel. In September 2024, in the south-eastern part of Katowice Airport, construction of the Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub with Railway Siding Connection commenced. The project is co-funded by the European Union as part of Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027 Military Mobility. The total estimated value of the Katowice Airport investment program for 2024-2032 is approx. PLN 1.5B.
