John Carpenter and Bong Joon-ho have agreed to work with each other on the latter’s new horror film.

The two directors made the pact at a recent screening of a 4K restoration of Carpenter’s The Thing, as Bong teased one of his future projects.

The Mickey 17 director said his “next next” project would be a horror and wanted his fellow director to do the score.

“I wanna do your score,” Carpenter then interjected before the two agreed to the idea with a handshake.

Carpenter is well known for composing scores alongside his directing work, which includes classics such as Halloween, Christine and The Fog.

Bong’s recently released his latest film Mickey 17, his first feature project since 2019’s Oscar-winning Parasite. The film stars Robert Pattinson as a disposable worker who is cloned each time he dies for research purposes.

In NME‘s four-star review of the film, we said: “Above all, there’s an infectious warmth to proceedings that makes you stick with Mickey 17 (and 18) through thick and thin. This kooky curio is well worth seeking out.”

Earlier this month, the director revealed that he would be interested in making an Alien musical when asked by the Los Angeles Times whether he would like to make franchise films.

“I’m not drawn to franchise films, but I did think at one point that I would like to do an Alien film… An Alien musical.”

Bong also revealed in a recent interview that his favourite K-pop group is BLACKPINK.

Meanwhile, back in 2023 Carpenter revealed that he watched the Barbie film, admitting that it “went right over my head”.

“I watched Barbie. I can’t believe I watched Barbie,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s just not my generation. I had nothing to do with Barbie dolls. I didn’t know who Allan was. I mean, I can sum it up. She says, ‘I don’t have a vagina,’ and then at the end, ‘I’m going to go to a gynaecologist!’ That’s the movie to me.

“I mean, there’s a patriarchy business in there, but I missed that whole thing. Right over my head. But I think she’s fabulous, Margot Robbie.”
