Gillian Anderson Has Been Talking to Ryan Coogler About His X-FILES Reboot

In a recent interview on This Morning, Anderson confirmed that she’s been talking with director Ryan Coogler about The X-Files reboot that he’s developing. While she’s not locked in to return as Dana Scully, she’s certainly not ruling it out either.Anderson said: “I spoke to him, and what I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person and best of luck, call me.’ At some point, if the phone rings and it’s good and it feels like the right time, then perhaps.”Her comment comes on the heels of a similar comments shared earlier this month, where she not only praised Coogler’s talent but reignited fan speculation about what the future holds for the franchise. “I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen, I think he’s a bit of a genius. There’s a chance it will happen. Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing, but in his hands … But I am not saying no, because I think he’s really cool, and I think if he did it, it will be done incredibly well, and maybe I’ll pop in for a little somethin’ somethin’.”Anderson didn’t offer specifics on what the hold up is, but hinted that her return would depend on factors outside her control. Possibly anything from creative direction to behind-the-scenes logistics. It’s not a “no,” but it’s definitely a “we’ll see.”Meanwhile, Coogler himself briefly addressed the reboot while promoting his new horror film Sinners , and he made it clear that The X-Files is next on his slate: “I’ve been excited about that for a long time and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f—ing scary.”It’s still early days, and details are under wraps, but I’m very curious to see how Coogler handles this franchise, and I hope that Anderson returns!
