A fan-favorite PS1 launch game is making a return on PS5 as part of Hamster’s Arcade Archives 2 series. Previously only announced for Nintendo Switch 2, Bandai Namco‘s Ridge Racer will launch on PS5 alongside an Arcade Archive version for PS4.
PS1 launch game Ridge Racer headed to PS5, PS4 in June
Both Arcade Archive 2 Ridge Racer and the PS4 Arcade Archive version will launch on June 5. The PS5 and Switch 2 versions will come with a new feature called Time Attack Mode.
The Time Attack mode allows players to compete to see who can beat Ridge Racer in the shortest time irrespective of their score. This mode is in addition to the Original Mode, High Score Mode, and Caravan Mode from the Arcade Archive series.
Hamster also promised “significantly enhanced” functionality.
Players will be granted multiple save slots, rewind feature, a quick start feature, and VRR support. Last but not least, Ridge Racer will feature three difficulty levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. A separate Time Trial mode will allow players to compete one-on-one against a rival car.
Based on the differences in the PS5 and PS4 versions, we expect two separate trophy sets.
