Customers of American Express & Chase who were planning to transfer their points to Emirates Skywards might want to pay attention to the current notice both banks have posted on their page, informing about an upcoming pause to Emirates transfers.
Effective May 28, 2025, and beyond, Emirates transfers from both Amex and Chase will be paused with an unclear window when or if the transfers will resume.
While American Express says there are more infos on Emirates own website (there are none), and Chase says the transfers would tentatively resume on June 30th there is no further reason given why this is happening or if this timeline is in fact realistic.
Here is the notice from American Express:
Amex customers who wish to move points to Emirates should do so asap before the function is being shut down, latest on May 28th. Keep in mind that nothing prevents them from pulling the plug at any time.
And the warning from Chase:
Chase says that the pause will take approximately one month which leads one to believe this has to do with some kind of a system upgrade and they might need to get their interface back online to make sure points transfers work properly again.
Capital One, another transfer partner for Skywards, has not posted any notice on their rewards page so far.
If a technical issue or system upgrade is coming up, wouldn’t it be easier to quell bad rumors by shedding light on it, rather than pausing these transfers without any background info?
Also, if Amex and Chase are affected, what about other financial partners? Or hotel partners such as Marriott Bonvoy, from which you can transfer hotel points to miles?
Conclusion
Since about a day or so, both American Express and Chase have posted a notice on their rewards pages that the transfer of points to Emirates Skywards will be paused effective May 28 (Amex) and May 29 (Chase).
There is no reason given for why this is the case. Chase says the transfers are likely to resume on June 30th but that’s of course no guarantee as even the bank itself uses the term tentatively.
Maybe the background of all this is very innocent and related to technical upgrades, but the mysterious circumstances don’t instill confidence. I wonder if more partners will be affected by this down the line!?
If you’re planning on using any of your credit card or hotel points for Emirates flights, it might be worthwhile to consider moving them now while transfers are still possible.
