Elon Musk at a rally in 2025.

Elon Musk is once again being mocked by gaming fans after asking for a new Diablo title.

The original Diablo was released in 1997 and a sequel followed three years later. A third entry in the action-fantasy series came in 2012 and Diablo 4 was released in 2023.

Yesterday, developers Activision Blizzard shared their roadmap for 2025 as Diablo 4’s Age Of Hatred continues. As well new quests, pets and dungeon bosses, leaderboards are also coming to the game.

“We have been waiting a long time. Just a little bit longer now,” wrote an excited Rob2628, sharing the news on Twitter. “Cool” Elon Musk replied. “When will there be a Diablo 5? Is that in development? The core engine is getting rather dated,” he continued.

Rob2628 politely told Musk that Activision Blizzard has “hinted” that development cycles are a lot faster nowadays. ”It used to be 10+ years between their games, so might still be a few years away,” he added.

However other gamers haven’t been as forgiving. “I’m sorry but this guy is the fakest gamer on earth. It’s been only 2 years since Diablo 4… is he stupid,” asked one X user. “‘The core engine is getting kind of dated’ it’s like if you asked a 57-year-old who’s never held a controller to talk like a nerd. He’s so fake it’s unbelievable,” said another. “He is definitely a fucking tourist,” wrote a third.

“What’s he even going to do when Diablo 5 comes out, pay someone else to play for him,” wrote another after Musk admitted to cheating in a number of games. “The top accounts in Diablo or Path Of Exile require multiple people playing the account to win a levelling race,” said Musk, adding that it is “impossible to beat players in Asia if you don’t.” He went on to explain that any stream is “100 per cent” him, though.

Following the controversy, Musk reshared old footage of him playing Diablo 4 and was roasted by a number of gamers. The same thing happened earlier this week when he livestreamed Path Of Exile 2 from his private plane. The comments on the stream were full of abuse towards Musk, who seemingly wasn’t aware you can turn the chat function off.

Earlier this year, Musk said gaming was his “one recreational activity” and he does it to “quiet” his mind.“Some days are real tough, so playing video games is my strange solace.”

In other news, breakout indie hit Balatro won big at the BAFTA Games Awards last night (April 8) – and their acceptance speech has gone viral.

Final Fantasy actor Ben Starr accepted the award for Best Debut while dressed like Balatro’s mascot Jimbo. “Isn’t selling stuff nice? What is art in 2025 but a thinly veiled vessel of ruthless commercial self-interest through which rich people try to make even more money,” he said before encouraging people to “play more independent games”.
