All Seeing I are re-releasing their iconic album ‘Pickled Eggs & Sherbet’. Check out the liner notes from Jarvis Cocker in a new video below.

The record was first shared in September 199 and marked the first and only album from the Sheffield band, who would later go on to split in 2002. It was formed by the production trio of Dean Honer, Jason Buckle, and Richard Barrett (aka DJ Parrot) – formerly of influential Warp Records signings Sweet Exorcist.

Now, a new remastered version of the record is set to arrive on April 25, and will see the LP available for the very first time on double vinyl as well as an expanded double CD version. It will feature rare B-sides from lost CD singles, as well as new mixes from DJ Parrot and The Reflex – pre-order it here.

Today (April 9), a new animated video has been shared by London Records. It was created by Jonny Sanders (aka Prehuman), and features Pulp frontman and fellow Sheffield artist Jarvis Cocker. In the clip, Cocker reads out his new liner notes for the ‘Pickled Eggs & Sherbet’ reissue.

In the clip, he describes his awkward first performance for the song ‘Walk Like A Panther’ – which he wrote for Tony Christie and went on to be the singer’s hit single for a quarter of a century. He begins by recalling how the members asked him to sing the demo to them directly, straight after he returned from a tour celebrating Pulp’s 1997 album ‘This Is Hardcore’.

“Was this an initiation ceremony?,” he says. “A test to see if I’d “gone soft” due to pop stardom? Just as I was about to start singing, I realised that I was now far more nervous than at any point during the tour of Australia I’d just returned from.”

“What could that mean? Four minutes & 28 seconds later, I felt a whole lot better: they liked it,” he added. “I breathed a fairly hefty sigh of relief – I was officially a part of the team. Welcome home, Jarvis.”

The song went on to reach Number 10 in the UK singles charts, and Cocker famously took on vocal duties in place of Christie during a slot on Top Of The Pops.

“Listening back to the album now I’m struck by how much some of the lyrics I wrote deal with my recent brush with pop stardom & my attempts to re-engage with my home town,” Cocker adds in his liner notes. Check out the video above.

Upon their debut, All Seeing I were lumped into the late-’90s Big Beat scene, and credited with bringing “together all the disparate threads of the Sheffield music scene past (and then) present on an album that could only have come from the ‘Steel City.’”

Other singles included ‘Beat Goes On’, which was the lead and reached Number 11 on the UK Singles Chart and Number One on the UK Dance Singles Chart in 1998. It also faced a resurgence in 2022 after going viral on TikTok.

There was also ‘1st Man In Space’ which featured The Human League’s Phil Oakey, and ‘Plastic Diamond’, which saw contributions from Babybird’s Stephen Jones – another Sheffield artist.

Following the split, Buckle went on to form Relaxed Muscle with Jarvis Cocker, while Honer fronts electronic duo I Monster. The latter are currently working on a new album.

As for Cocker, Pulp and LCD Soundsystem recently announced a couple of 2025 Hollywood Bowl co-headline shows set to take place later this year. Pulp also shared details of a summer 2025 UK arena tour. Visit here for UK tickets and here for international tickets.
