Global multidisciplinary design studio JPA Design has collaborated with airline suppliers PTP (Plane Talking Products) to reimagine airplane onboard products and services created for passengers across economy to business class.
The partnership between the design studio, which has designed airplane cabins for Cathay Pacific and American Airlines, is focused on reducing plastic packaging waste while introducing thoughtful, welcoming elements to enhance both the onboard service and the boarding experience. The product range features a comfortable unwrappable blanket (in premium economy) and mattress (in business class) — meaning no additional packaging is needed, and no extra waste is generated.
For premium economy cabins, JPA Design and PTP developed a blanket that is thoughtfully designed to enhance passengers’ boarding experience. Neatly tied and attached to the seat’s backrest dress cover, it eliminates the need for plastic and frees up space on the seat. Once unfolded, the blanket reveals a generous drawstring pocket that holds the pillow, along with a smaller, fully enclosed pocket designed to keep personal items like smartphones secure and within easy reach while the blanket is in use.
In business class, JPA Design has ensured passenger comfort is seamlessly integrated into the unwrappable mattress cover itself, eliminating the need for additional packaging and reducing waste. The elegant bow securing the bedding is inspired by global fashion elegance, adding a sophisticated touch to the design. The innovative mattress topper features magnets that connect effortlessly with the seat’s dress cover.
This subtle yet thoughtful design feature ensures a stable and comfortable sleeping surface, enhancing passengers’ overall in-flight rest experience.
JPA Design has personalised its approach to creating amenity items by moving away from one-size-fits-all kits, emphasizing the human touch of crew interaction. The collaborative project with PTP ensures that the cabin crew facilitating the service offer a selection of refined products for passengers to choose from, reducing the environmental impact of unnecessary items. Once passengers make their selections, they are able to store them in a practical bag that can be hung on a coat or headphones hook, keeping the passenger seat space tidy and clutter-free.
This groundbreaking collaboration between JPA Design and PTP redefines in-flight luxury through a seamless fusion of innovation and artistry. The versatile, human-centered design of the products transforms functional elements into refined solutions that anticipate and meet passenger needs. By elevating onboard amenities, they ensure exceptional comfort throughout every journey.
