Dropkick Murphys’ X account suspended after band spoke out against Trump and Elon Musk

Boston Celtic punk heroes Dropkick Murphys have been increasingly vocal about their disdain for Donald Trump and Elon Musk these past few days, and now, for reasons not yet revealed to the public, their account on the Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has been suspended.

The latest development is that singer Ken Casey did an interview with Meidastouch Network, in which he spoke about Trump directly, saying: “One other thing Dropkick Murphys has always been about is a lot of songs about standing with your friends and family and the things you believe in, whether it’s politics, or just how you were raised. And Donald Trump is the exact opposite of everything we sing about. He’s turned on his friends. He’s turned on America’s friends and our allies. He’s a rat and a coward when you think of it that way.”

Before, that, they played a show in Clearwater, FL on March 8 during their St. Patrick’s Day tour at which Ken called out a man for wearing a MAGA hat and shirt, and he made a bet with the fan that if the MAGA shirt was made in America, the band–whose merch is 100% made in America as a way of showing support for American workers–would give him a Dropkick Murphys shirt and $100. But if the MAGA shirt isn’t made in America, the fan would have to turn his shirt over to the band. When it was revealed that the MAGA shirt was made in Nicaragua, the fan kept his end of the bargain, and then Ken gave the “good sport” a DKM shirt to wear instead anyway.

The Murphys posted a video of the moment on their Instagram with the hashtag #trumpsucks, and days later, they shared another video from the aforementioned Mediastouch from their annual hometown St. Patrick’s Day run, and this time, it was footage of Ken calling out a fan who was waving around a MAGA hat.

In the video, Ken says to the crowd, “If you’re in a room full of people and you want to know who’s in a cult, how do you know who’s in a cult? They’ve been holding up a fucking hat the whole night to represent a president. This is America, there’s no kings here.”

“Anyway, if you mind, sir,” he continued,” we’re gonna play a song about our grandparents and people who fought Nazis in the war and shit. So if you could just shut the fuck up for five minutes.”

Musk caught a stray at that show too, when Ken referred to the MAGA hat as the “Elon Musk True Nazi edition.” And then their account on the Musk-owned X was suspended, for–again–reasons not yet revealed to the public.

Maybe we’ll learn more soon but until then, you can watch all three aforementioned videos below and you can also rewatch the livestream of DKM’s proper St. Patrick’s Day show from last night (3/17) on Veeps.

With the St. Patrick’s Day tour wrapped up, DKM will take some time off and they’ll be back out on the road this summer for a co-headlining tour with Bad Religion, including NJ shows in Atlantic City (8/15) and Asbury Park (8/23) (tickets). All dates are listed below.
