WHSmith reveals transformed Newcastle Airport travel essentials convenience store
The 3,700sq ft space has been transformed into a one-stop convenience outlet for travel essentials, reopening in time for the busy Easter holiday period.

UK. WHSmith has completed an extensive refurbishment of its Newcastle Airport store. The 3,700sq ft space has been transformed into a one-stop convenience outlet for travel essentials.
A rapid six-week makeover programme has allowed the store to reopen in time for the busy Easter holiday period.
The shop now houses an expanded health and beauty section offering popular high street brands, such as L’Oréal, Garnier, Nivea and Dr Paw Paw.
Passengers can enjoy an extensive range of food and drinks, including meal deals which feature sandwiches, wraps, crisps and snacks.
The outlet also stocks essential gadgets such as phone chargers, headphones and battery packs.
WHSmith noted its new design and layout not only enhances the customer experience but also pays homage to some of Newcastle’s famous buildings and landmarks.
The souvenirs and gift section reflects Ouseburn’s vibrant street art, featuring bright neon lights, striking murals and colourful displays.
The books and magazines area, offering the latest best-selling titles and airport exclusives, has been inspired by Newcastle Helix, with its geometric patterns, monochrome tones and curated shelving.
The payment area has also been upgraded, drawing influence from the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Biscuit Factory, with exposed brickwork and metallic finishes adding a stylish, modern touch.
Newcastle Airport Director of Commercial Dean Ward said, “We have enjoyed a long and successful partnership with WHSmith and we are delighted to see the store reopen following its major transformation.
“The new design and layout not only enhance the shopping experience but also celebrate Newcastle’s unique character. We are confident the newly refurbished store will be hugely popular with our passengers.”
WHSmith Travel CEO Andrew Harrison commented, “With our newly refurbished store at Newcastle Airport we’ve really focused on elevating the shopping experience for our customers.
“From essential travel items like food to go and health and beauty products, to the latest tech and unique souvenirs, we’ve curated a store that meets every need. I’m incredibly proud of the end result and the dedication of our team in making this vision a reality.
“When people get into airports, one of the first places they go is WHSmith and we’re committed to offering an unmatched convenience shopping experience for customers on the go.”
WHSmith joins other refurbished stores in the departure lounge including JD Sports and Bar 11, which both reopened earlier this year.
