A$AP Rocky loved Adrian Brody’s ‘The Brutalist’: “I’m an aspiring furniture designer”

A$AP Rocky The Brutalist

Rapper A$AP Rocky has professed his love for Oscar-winning drama The Brutalist, and revealed how the film has inspired one of his ambitions.

Directed by Brady Corbet, the drama tells the story of a fictional architect, played by Adrien Brody, who escapes The Holocaust and emigrates to America in the late 1940s. From there, he becomes involved with a rich industrialist (Guy Pearce) who commissions him to build a monument that will push both men to their limits.

The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor for Brody. NME’s five-star review described it as “a giant of a film”. In an interview with Vogue magazine, A$AP Rocky described his enthusiasm for the movie.

“I really did watch it three times,” he told the outlet. “It’s that good, to me, because I’m an aspiring furniture designer”. The artist launched his own interior design brand, Hommemade, in 2022. Rocky designed the furniture piece “Shroom CACTUS” in collaboration with Italian furniture manufacturer Gufram.

While the brand’s release are sporadic, they form part of a multitude of ventures for Rocky, including clothes, whiskey, and advertising campaigns.

Elsewhere in the interview, the rapper’s grandmother Cathy spoke about his relationship with Rihanna, with whom he has two children. “I’m glad that he settled down, and I’m happy with who he settled down with,” she said of the ‘SOS’ singer. “She’s a down-to-earth person”.

Recently, A$AP Rocky opened his headline set at Rolling Loud California by performing new songs aboard a helicopter. The rapper topped the bill at the Inglewood festival on Saturday (March 15) and showed up on a helicopter with the words ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ emblazoned across it, in reference to his upcoming studio album of the same name.
