20 New Songs Out Today
Listen to new songs by Scowl, My Morning Jacket, Laura Jane Grace, Ben Kweller/Waxahatchee, Horsegirl, James Elkington, bdrmm, and more.

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SCOWL – “B.A.B.E.”
Scowl have shared the third single off their upcoming Dead Oceans debut Are We All Angels, which is poised to be a full-fledged pivot into melodic alternative rock. “B.A.B.E.” continues that, but this one brings back the band’s hardcore side a little more overtly than the first two singles did. Pre-order the album on green vinyl.

BDRMM – “LAKE DISAPPOINTMENT”
“Lake Disappointment is probably the most aggressive and exciting song we’ve conjured up,” says bdrmm’s Ryan Smith of the band’s electronics-heavy new single. “I remember sending it to Alex (our producer) and I’ve never seen him so excited about a track. It was such a dream to work on. I feel like within all the melancholy of the record there is a lot of anger too. This is us getting that out, and saying fuck you to the wrongdoers. I will always hold such a great memory of shooting the video. We ventured to an abandoned warehouse in Sheffield and recruited an amazing production team and created our own dystopian TV shopping channel (under strong orders our bosses at MicroTech). We must have been sick for a week after from being stood around in the cold for 12 hours in hospital gowns, but it was worth it. No pain, no gain (we’re still waiting for the gain).” New album Microtonic is out February 28 via Mogwai’s Rock Action label.

HAAI – “CAN’T STAND TO LOSE”
London-based producer, songwriter and DJ HAAi has shared her first new single since 2023, the ethereal “Can’t Stand to Lose,” which is out now via Mute. “‘Can’t Stand to Lose’ is a reflection on longing, loss, and the deeply human emotions that accompany them – the nostalgia, the yearning, and the vulnerability,” she says. “It’s inspired by our rapidly changing world and how it reshapes our lives: opening possibilities that are initially exciting, but are soon met with the realisation of what’s lost. It’s a meditation on what we gain and what we leave behind.”

MY MORNING JACKET – “SQUID INK”
“The idea behind ‘Squid Ink’ is that certain people carry a negativity that fills the room like a squid shooting ink into the water,” says My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. “It’s about trying to get out of those murky waters by believing in yourself, and when Patrick and I were jamming I got the idea to sing part of the chorus really low — almost like putting a beard on the face of the vocal.” MMJ’s new album will be out March 21.
