It didn’t take too long for the word to get out what the new brand of the Hilton Brisbane hotel would be. The hotel carried the Hilton flag for 40 years and closed on April 1, 2025 (read more here).

It turns out that the owner has made a long-term agreement to reflag the property as an InterContinental Brisbane, and the hotel is scheduled to reopen after a brief refresh in June 2025.

Here’s an excerpt from Hotel Management, which broke the news:

The reopening will mark the beginning of a two-year conversion project, which will see the hotel integrated with ISTP’s Wintergarden shopping centre and the Regent Theatre to form a retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality precinct.

IHG said the luxury offering will be enhanced in line with the InterContinental brand hallmarks, with the hotel’s original Modernist design features by renowned architect Harry Seidler retained.

On completion, the hotel will feature 321 guest rooms, four restaurants and bars and expansive conference and events facilities.

InterContinental Brisbane becomes the third InterContinental property in Queensland, joining InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef and InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort.

Conclusion

This certainly is an interesting development, and I hope the owner and IHG ensure it is promptly renovated to the InterContinental brand standards.

The building certainly looks unique and represents the era in which it was built.
