Theron: Thurman Should’ve Won A “Kill Bill” Oscar

Out to start publicity for the upcoming “The Old Guard” sequel, Charlize Theron appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show and took time out to praise a fellow actress for breaking ground which she followed.

Theron has been known for action films in recent years, though admittedly stumbled out of the gate a bit with 2005’s “Æon Flux”. She has since made up for that with better received films like “Atomic Blonde,” the “Fast and Furious” titles, and George Miller’s masterpiece “Mad Max: Fury Road”.

In the interview, she singles out Uma Thurman and particularly her work in Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” as setting an example for her and many others:

“We knew each other kind of offhand, but I knew her from being a massive fan, just watching her work, and always wanted to do something with her. Because when I came into the action world, she was really, to me, like, the sensei. She was the OG.”

When Kimmel says: “She should’ve won the Academy Award for ‘Kill Bill,’ right?,” Theron responds:

“100%. [Usually] men who get a lot of credit for these [types of] movies. What she did in that film was just so unbelievable. She’s just such a badass. So since I’ve been in action movies I’ve been like, ‘Who do I want to work with and do an action sequence with?’ It’s always been Uma Thurman. Always.”

The topic of Thurman understandably came up as the “Pulp Fiction” actress serves as the antagonist of “The Old Guard 2” with the pair facing off in a major fight in one sequence – even as Theron’s immortal character seems to have lost her powers and so could well be killed in the sequence.

Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Henry Golding co-star in the film which hits the streamer on July 2nd.
