Taylor-Johnson Wasn’t A Serious Bond Candidate?

Yesterday came the shock news about the ceding of creative control of the Bond franchise from fiercely protective long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over to Amazon. Today, smaller details have emerged about the nature of the deal.

Puck reports that “Kraven the Hunter” and “Nosferatu” star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has long been rumored as a potential candidate to take on the role, was never a serious option.

They say the actor never had “any real movement” when it came to him taking on the role, but that’s not a slight against him – they say there was “no real movement on any potential Bond suitor whatsoever”.

So all those reports about the likes of Rege Jean-Page, Lucien Laviscount, Jack O’Connell and Josh O’Connor? All speculative nonsense. Tom Hardy, Idris Elba or Henry Cavill? Fan wishes only at best.

The outlet’s sources say producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were “genuinely stumped” about how to replace Craig and hadn’t any plan in place when Amazon acquired MGM in 2021.

There may have been ‘meet and greet’ meetings with actors like Deadline suggests, but this report indicates were never anything more than that.

Under the new deal, the pair and Amazon remain co-owners of the Bond series, but Amazon MGM Studios will now have full creative control. The outlet says reports of a $1 billion pricetag for the deal is not accurate, but once it’s closed Amazon will definitely be forking out a lot of money.
