Revermi: Simplifying Vermicomposting for the Urban Dweller

I keep telling myself that I should live more sustainably and start doing more eco-friendly practices like segregating, recycling, and composting. However, as a naturally lazy person, just thinking about all the effort I need to do just to be able to start doing any of these is already stressing me out. I am a creature of convenience after all so I need to have something that’s practical, convenient, and intuitive. Composting in particular seems to be such a hassle, although I understand the benefits that come with it.

Designer: Sam Kauranen

This concept for a vermicomposting device is something that is designed for people like me who want to try out this process of composting organic waste using worms but may be too inconvenienced with doing things manually. Revermi is a semiautomated vermicomposter that will make it easier for those who want to try vermicomposting as it is meant for urban dwellers who might not have space and the time to do it themselves. It looks like a water jug but inside, you have worms doing their thing with food waste and producing compost. It beats having to do things by hand as you may not have enough space to have trays of worms and food waste lying around your urban dwelling.

The composter lets you adjust the height by having a reversible base. If you want it higher and easier to access, you can use the base as a table. But, if you need something smaller due to space constraints, you can just flip the base and you now have a more compact version of the composter. The lid design has a built-in air filter so there will be no odor buildup. It also has temperature and humidity sensors so you can keep track of it as you feed the machine. It uses a 3 Bin Design so the worms can move seamlessly upward as they look for fresh food. When you need to get the compost, there’s a spigot so you can easily “harvest” it.

Revermi isn’t just a composter; it’s a solution. It removes the barriers that prevent many urban dwellers from embracing sustainable practices. It’s practical, convenient, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing. With Revermi, even the most reluctant recycler can easily contribute to a greener lifestyle, turning kitchen scraps into valuable resources for their home gardens or houseplants. It’s a win-win for both the environment and the busy individual. Now if only this gets turned into an actual product.
