Air India is in the news for all the wrong reasons again, and once more it’s for one of the airline’s passengers urinating on another customer in the Business Class cabin of a Bangkok-bound flight.

The victim was the CEO of an MNC in Bangkok, and the offender was reported to authorities, but it’s incredible that once again it’s an Air India passenger causing such headlines (for the second time).

According to news reports, the offending passenger was drunk or at least had consumed a sufficient amount of alcohol that he was considered under the influence.

The Indian Express reports that this disgusting incident occurred on April 9th from Delhi to Bangkok.

An Air India passenger allegedly urinated on a fellow traveller aboard a flight from Delhi to Bangkok on April 9. The incident has prompted both airline and government authorities to initiate probes and review responses.

The episode occurred onboard flight AI2336, where the crew had to intervene after a passenger engaged in what Air India has officially termed “unruly behavior.” The airline has since reported the matter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and promised further investigation.

“Air India confirms that an incident of unruly passenger behaviour was reported to the cabin crew operating flight AI2336, from Delhi to Bangkok, on April 9, 2025,” the airline said in a statement. “The crew followed all laid down procedures, and the matter has been reported to the authorities.”

Air India further stated that its cabin crew had issued a warning to the offending passenger during the flight and had offered assistance to the aggrieved flyer to pursue the matter with local authorities upon landing in Bangkok. However, the affected passenger reportedly declined the offer at that time.

In response to the growing scrutiny, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu commented, “If there is any wrongdoing, we will take necessary action.” He assured that the Ministry would look into the details and speak to the airline.

The airline has also announced that a standing Independent Committee would be convened to evaluate the incident and decide on any disciplinary action against the accused flyer. “Air India continues to follow the SOPs as laid out by DGCA in such matters,” the spokesperson added.

This latest case adds to a disturbing pattern: multiple such incidents have been reported in recent years, often involving alcohol.

In March 2023, Arya Vohra, an Indian student studying at a US university, was banned by American Airlines after allegedly urinating on a co-passenger during an international flight.

Just months later, in November 2024, another case involving Shankar Mishra, a drunk male passenger urinating on an elderly woman in the business class of an Air India flight sparked widespread condemnation.

I would think that this executive doesn’t want this case to go through the media unnecessarily by making a police report and being known as the CEO who got p***ed on by some Indian guy for the remainder of his professional and personal life.

Here is also a YouTube video with a report about the matter:

This wasn’t the first time Air India and their passengers are in the news for such a vile incident. Roughly two years ago, another drunk Indian passenger urinated on a woman onboard an Air India flight to New York.

Not sure what it is with Indians and alcohol, followed by such disgusting situations. Surely this won’t affect every single person, but the constant references are rather unflattering, and it appears to be a real problem onboard Air India. Should the airline maybe consider going dry if it can’t get its passengers under control?

A year ago I reported about witnessing drunk Indians flying on Air India stealing beers at the EVA Airlines lounge in Bangkok:

Whine Wednesday: Air India Passengers Caught Stealing At The EVA AIR Lounge In Bangkok

And then there was this:

Indian Passengers On Air Asia Flight Accused Of Misconduct After “Partying It Up” In The Aisle

A real piece of work, truly exhausting to deal with, and as far as Air India is concerned, you couldn’t pay me to take one of their flights in either class of service.

Conclusion

Air India is facing another embarrassing and disgusting situation as one of their passengers was seated in Business Class, got drunk and then urinated onto another passenger, an executive seated in the same cabin.

An internal report was filed, and an investigation is ongoing. It appears the victim in the case isn’t very interested in pressing charges here, as the reputational damage would far outweigh the benefits of punishing the offender. Whatever charges the airline might press – in addition to banning the passenger from the airline – are unknown at this time.

What should Air India do to combat this behavior in the future? Stop serving alcohol altogether?
