Netflix has boarded Story Kitchen and Sloclap’s feature film adaptation of video game “Sifu” with writer T.S. Nowlin (“The Maze Runner,” “The Adam Project”) now penning the script.

Nowlin appears to be taking over from “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad who was linked to adapt the script back in 2022. “John Wick” franchise director Chad Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment banner have also now joined the project as producers.

Set in modern-day China, the revenge tale follows the student of a martial arts school’s master (Sifu) as he seeks to avenge the murder of his mentor.

The big element of the game is that the student has a magical talisman that resurrects him each time he dies, but each time he also immediately ages a little bit.

With the aging he gains access to more powerful attacks, but his overall health is reduced. Should he become too old too fast, his death will become permanent.

The game received generally positive reviews and sold over one million copies within its first three weeks of release.

Stahelski, Jason Spritz, Alex Young, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Dan Jevons, Jeff Ludwig and Timothy I. Stevenson are producing.
