My Morning Jacket conjure a heavy, simmering groove on “Squid Ink,” the second single from their upcoming album, is (May 21, ATO). An accompanying video, directed by Danny Clinch, is out now.
“The idea behind ‘Squid Ink’ is that certain people carry a negativity that fills the room like a squid shooting ink into the water,” says frontman Jim James. “It’s about trying to get out of those murky waters by believing in yourself, and when [drummer] Patrick [Hallahan] and I were jamming I got the idea to sing part of the chorus really low — almost like putting a beard on the face of the vocal.”

is was previously teased with first single “Time Waited,” which is built on a sample of a piano melody taken from pedal steel guitarist Buddy Emmons album Emmons Guitar Inc. The album was produced by Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen).
My Morning Jacket will support is on a spring tour beginning April 1 in Chattanooga, Tn. The trek includes a three-night stand (April 25-27) in the band’s Louisville, Ky., hometown.
