HONOLULU – The Hawai’i Tourism Authority (HTA) announced that the Hawai’i Convention Center will operate under a modified schedule throughout 2026 and 2027 to accommodate a series of critical upgrades and repairs across the facility.
The cornerstone of this effort is a $64 million rooftop repair project, which will be conducted alongside additional improvements aimed at enhancing the guest experience, increasing sustainability, and optimizing operational efficiency. While construction is underway, HTA is working in close coordination with organizers of six citywide events scheduled for 2026 and 12 for 2027 to explore alternative dates and venues within Hawai‘i for future years.
The Convention Center will remain available for local events, with scheduling adjusted to align with construction timelines to ensure continued community access.
Originally planned as a one-year project beginning January 1, 2026, the rooftop repairs have been extended through 2027 following a detailed evaluation of the work required. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for the project was issued on April 1, 2025.
In addition to the roof repairs, this period will be used to implement a range of facility upgrades and building improvements, ensuring the Hawai‘i Convention Center remains a premier destination for meetings, conventions, and community events well into the future.
