Rumors have been swirling that a remaster of the original God of War trilogy for the PS5 is in the works. Back in February, speculation made rounds that the remasters will release as part of God of War’s 20th anniversary celebrations, spurred by a comment from journalist Jeff Grubb. However, Santa Monica Studio has dismissed the claim.
Santa Monica Studio’s statement doesn’t deny the existence of God of War trilogy remaster
Revealing a God of War 20th anniversary panel, Santa Monica Studio specifically mentioned that it has no plans to make any announcement during the event. The developer didn’t directly reference the trilogy rumors, but certainly alluded to them.
“We’re so excited to bring a selection of the Greek and Norse cast for this God of War 20th Anniversary panel where we’ll be reflecting on the past two decades of the series,” the announcement reads. “With such a stellar lineup and all the anticipation we’ve seen around the anniversary, we do want to be clear that there are no planned announcements for this event.”
That’s that, then.
Although Santa Monica Studio’s statement doesn’t deny the existence of the God of War trilogy remaster, we advise fans not to get their hopes up. Developers don’t normally comment on rumors and speculations, so it’s possible that the remaster simply doesn’t exist.
