Jason Momoa Returns For “Dune Messiah”

Jason Momoa will reportedly return to the “Dune” franchise with Jeff Sneider reporting on The Hot Mic that the actor is onboard for “Dune Messiah” which aims to shoot this Summer.

Momoa starred in the first film as Duncan Idaho, swordmaster of House Atreides, Leto’s ambassador to the Fremen and good friend to Paul (Timothee Chalamet). He sacrifices himself repelling the Emperor’s Sardaukar guards (disguised as Harkonnens), allowing time for Paul and Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) to escape.

The ‘Messiah’ story unfolds twelve years later as Paul has unleashed a jihad that has gone beyond his control and slaughtered billions in his name. The Bene Gesserit, Spacing Guild, and Tleilaxu conspire to dethrone him while Paul has failed to produce an heir with either Chani or Princess Irulan.

In ‘Messiah,’ Duncan returns as a ghola (clone) named Hayt, made by the Tleilaxu as a gift from the Spacing Guild to Paul. Doing so weakens Paul’s support amongst the Fremen and a conspiracy grows against him. The Duncan Idaho character is the only one to appear in all of the main “Dune” novels and plays a major part in the events of ‘Messiah’.

Also expected back are Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam.

Work has reportedly already been underway behind the scenes on the third “Dune” which will mark Denis Villeneuve’s final film in the series and closes out the Paul Atreides story.
