Grandaddy playing ‘The Sophtware Slump’ in full on first North American tour in 21 years

Indie rock greats Grandaddy have announced their first North American tour since 2004. It celebrate the 25th anniversary of their second album, The Sophtware Slump, and they’ll be playing it in full, plus a set of other favorites. Pedro the Lion open West Coast dates while Greg Freeman opens on the Midwest and East Coast dates. All are listed below.

The NYC show is at Brooklyn Steel on October 15 and tickets for all dates go on sale Friday, May 9 at 10 AM local time.

Grandaddy were set to tour the US in 2017 when they released Last Place, their first album in 11 years, but bassist Greg Garcia died just days before their tour was set to start. (They did play a one-off in NYC that year.) They also toured Europe in 2022.

The Sophtware Slump made our Indie Basement Best Albums of 2000 list, where we wrote: “Grandaddy really figured out their sound and worldview with their fantastic second album, featuring frontman Jason Lytle’s absurdist tales of mundanity and stress in our increasingly tech-reliant world, set to a blend of ’90s indie rock, glammy synthphonic flourishes (Flaming Lips/Mercury Rev’s influence loomed large in 2000), and twangy country. The concept album imagines a world full of alcoholic robots, sad computer programmers, lost pilots, stuntman Evil Knevil, and forests made of discarded appliances that Lytle makes relatable with his empathetic style and a hard drive full of earworm spacerock pop…somehow it all sounds even more relevant now than it did in Y2K.”
