Duran Lantink Named New Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier

Puig-owned Jean Paul Gaultier has officially named Duran Lantink as its new creative director. The appointment of the Dutch designer ends the House of Jean Paul Gaultier's collaborative era, which began after Mr. Gaultier stepped down from the brand in 2020. When he did so, the brand used couture as a platform for showcasing various designers' visions of the JPG brand. Some included, Glenn Martens, Haider Ackermann, Nicolas di Felice and Simone Rocha, who all presented their versions of Jean Paul Gaultier collections. The brand's revival has seen a demand for JPG amongst young people. While the brand shuttered its ready-to-wear line in 2014, the brand remains aspirational, having only shown only haute couture runways during the past decade. The haute couture presentations allow the brand to continue its founders campy, dramatically constructed silhouettes. With collaboration from the likes of Lotta Volkova and Shayne Oliver Jean Paul Gaultier has been able to revive its RTW line. Lantink's appointment sees the designer as Jean Paul Gaultier's first permanent creative director since Gaultier stepped down. Having trained at the Gerritt Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam before building his brand, he shifted from traditional tailoring to upcycling deadstock and existing fabrics and garments, breathing new life into the by constructing new hybrid silhouettes. His breakout moment was in 2018 when he designed a pair of "vagina" trousers for Janelle Monae in her "PYNK" video. He has been recognized by the British Council and won the Andam Fashion Award, the 2025 Woolmark Prize and LVMH’s 2024 Karl Lagerfeld prize. With his own brand, Duran Lantink joined the Paris RTW calendar in October 2023. His most recent Fall/Winter 2025 show bared it all with a viral latex top that took the internet by storm. With a stamp of approval from Mr. Gaultier himself, who said of Lantink's appointment, "I see in him the energy, audacity, and playful spirit through fashion that I had at the beginning of my own journey: the new «enfant terrible» of fashion. Welcome, Duran." Lantink shares, "I consider Jean Paul Gaultier a genius and part of a generation that kicked down doors, so people like us can walk through them freely and be who we are without apology. Stepping into the role of Creative Director is a true honor. To me, Gaultier represents the ultimate house of creative spirit and savoir-faire. It's provocative, and continuously pushing boundaries. It's the brand that brings together different disciplines around fashion to create cultural movements, changing the language of clothes and how we wear them in the streets." Duran Lantink's first RTW collection for Jean Paul Gaultier will be revealed during Paris Fashion Week on September 25 and his debut haute couture collection will unveil on January 2026.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
