After playing an alien in Guardians of the Galaxy, Dave Bautista will fight them off in Dreadnought, Deadline reports.

Written by Joseph Greenberg, the dystopian sci-fi thriller reunites Bautista with directors Cary Murnion & Jonathan Milott (Becky, Cooties), who directed him in 2017’s Bushwick.

Bautista will star as Max, whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a deadly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. In the fragile society that remains, humans have learned to coexist with their extraterrestrial invaders. But for Max, survival isn’t enough.

His older daughter, Greta, is dying from the disease. As her body weakens, an alien Sentinel lurks outside their home, drawing nearer and nearer as Greta takes her final breaths. This silent, unyielding predator is on a mission to collect her body to fulfill an unstoppable metamorphosis ritual. The government sanctions it. Society accepts it. But Max refuses to have anything else taken from him.

John Wick franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road will produce alongside Bautista and Ashley Daniels of Dogbone Entertainment, and Jason Ross Jallet, Andrew Bronfman, and Jonathan Bronfman of Beyond the Frame.

Noah Segal (Infinity Pool, Possessor) of Elevation Pictures will executive produce. Marz VFX (The Creator, “WandaVision”) is on board to oversee the visual effects.

“Erica and I have been trying to make a movie with Jon and Cary since we saw Bushwick,” said Iwanyk. “They’re able to create incredible tension, mount some kick-ass action, and create a compelling world without breaking the bank. It’s exactly the kind of filmmakers Thunder Road has succeeded with in the past.”

WME Independent is launching sales for Dreadnought ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin.
