Offering an immersive experience for visitors, the marketing campaign features flash mob performances, traditional Chinese design elements, free flower giveaways and exclusive shopping benefits.

CHINA. cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Hainan has launched a themed promotional campaign to celebrate the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the first month on the traditional Chinese calendar) and Valentine’s Day (14 February).
Offering an immersive experience for visitors, the marketing campaign features flash mob performances, traditional Chinese design elements, free flower giveaways and exclusive shopping benefits.
Running from today (12 February) until 16 February, the promotions incorporate Haikou’s Fucheng Lantern and Flower Exchange Festival, a local custom with a centuries-old history.
cdf Haikou’s Aura atrium has been transformed into a popular photo spot, adorned with installations of CDFG’s new Year of the Snake mascot and decorations of the ongoing Chinese New Year Garden Fair.
Shoppers hitting the spending targets will receive bouquets as gifts.
On Valentine’s Day, the retailer will be giving away 1,314 roses at its east gate and rolling out special packages and themed activities at the Malt & More Whisky museum, adding a romantic touch to the festivities.
In partnership with various brands, the retailer is offering additional shopping rewards such as gifts for meeting spending targets and bonus points, complemented by government consumption vouchers.
The entertainment line-up features a flash mob performance by volunteer artists from the Hainan Provincial Federation of Literary and Arts Organisations on Lantern Festival day.
During Hong Kong pop singer Jacky Cheung’s concert tour on 21-23 February, cdf Haikou will offer special experiences, including exclusive shopping and dining benefits for concertgoers.
Enhanced brand line-up and shopping benefits
cdf Haikou highlighted the sales surge during the recent Chinese New Year holiday shopping season, with strong demand for international luxury brands. These include Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Prada, as well as jewellery and watch brands such as Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels.
The retailer reported strong performances from popular Chinese brands, including Huawei.
cdf Haikou sales manager Fu Muxiao said: “This year, sales of electronics like mobile phones and smartwatches benefitted from government subsidies, with discounts of up to CNY500 [US$68] on smartphones. Several Huawei models have already sold out.”
The combination of promotional activities, government vouchers and subsidies contributed to a notable surge in consumer spending, he added.
cdf Haikou said it has been continuously strengthening its brand portfolio by adding a mix of luxury houses, sports brands, homegrown favourites and dining concepts.
Recent additions such as Bulgari’s inaugural Haikou store and the MLB flagship concept, along with immersive experiences such as Huawei’s New Year Photo Studio and Elizabeth Arden’s Chinese New Year pop-up store, have further enhanced the overall retail experience for consumers.
Looking ahead, China Duty Free Group underscores its commitment to deepening its presence in the Hainan market, innovating marketing strategies and improving services to support the development of the offshore duty-free hub.
