Hot off the major viewership and good reviews for his Netflix action-thriller “Carry-On,” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has settled on his next project – the survival thriller “Play Dead”.
Peter Stanley-Ward & Natalie Conway penned the script for the film and while story details are under wraps, the project is said to be a blending of Fede Alvarez’ contained thriller “Don’t Breathe” with Sam Mendes’ Oscar-winning unbroken shot war film “1917”.
Nocturnal, Ghost House Pictures, BoulderLight Pictures, and Bad Grey are all backing the project which will be shot at the Docklands Studios in Melbourne, Australia starting in May.
Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Akiva Nemetsky, Keaton Heinrichs, Dane Eckerle, JD Lifshitz and Raphael Margules will produce.
No casting has yet been set. Collet-Serra has proven a workhorse, delivering high-concept thrillers like “Orphan,” “The Shallows,” “Unknown,” “Non-Stop,” “The Commuter” along with films like Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” and DC’s “Black Adam”.
Netflix’s “Carry-On” was seen as a return to form and currently sits as the streamer’s third most popular film of all time. The filmmaker has already shot two films since he shot that – Blumhouse’s supernatural psycho-thriller “The Woman in the Yard” opening next month, and the “Cliffhanger” reboot starring Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.
