Bruce Willis’s daughter Scout has recalled her last encounter with Aaron Carter in an interview for a new documentary about the late musician and his brother.
Carter was found unresponsive in a bathtub at his house in Lancaster, California in 2022 and was subsequently pronounced dead after paramedics reached the scene. He was 34 years old.
A new documentary about the late pop star’s life, called The Carters: Hurts To Love You, will premiere on Paramount+ on Tuesday (April 15) and follows both Aaron and his brother Nick of The Backstreet Boys on their journey to fame.
In the documentary, Scout recalled being around 10 years old when she became “absolutely batshit obsessed” with Aaron and wanted to meet him. On her 12th birthday with her family, Scout revealed she met Aaron while on holiday with her family at Disney World.
“From inside of me erupts the most insane fangirl piercing 12-year-old scream you can possibly imagine,” Scout recalled of the moment. Bruce Willis had asked Aaron to attend her birthday party.
She went on to describe him as the “sweetest, most beautiful, gracious boy I have ever met.” Despite his young age, he was alone without his family and later decided to stay for the weekend with the family.
Remembering the encounter, she added: “It was so rare for him to get to hang out with kids his own age and not be working, and it was something that I only realised years later how rare of a moment it was for him to get to just play and be silly and have fun with us.”
In 2013, Scout was at university and reached out to Aaron’s team when she realised he was touring through her college town in the hopes of reconnecting with him. Scout indeed met him again and recalled: “It’s like all of these feelings are flooding and I cannot believe the situation I’m in.
During the gig, Aaron called Scout on stage: “He sits down, pulls me onto his lap, is serenading me: I could have died in that exact moment,” she recalls, before kissing her on stage. Scout went on to say he later asked her to be his girlfriend, but she declined.
“Obviously it was not what he wanted to hear and maybe bruised his ego a bit,” Scout continued. “We didn’t really talk again after that.”
Looking back at the situation, Scout added she thought he was “someone who, I think, was probably so lonely, and so much longing for real love.”
After Aaron’s untimely death, his brother Nick recalled in 2023 how he was still struggling to process what had happened.
Speaking to E! News, Nick described his brother’s death as year is “still unbelievable”.
He added: “I’m still processing the whole situation and trying to make sense of it – because it hasn’t. But I’m hoping that one day I can make sense of it all.”
Following Carter’s death, his brother Nick Carter paid tribute online. “My heart is broken,” he wrote. “Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”
Nick added: “I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz. Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth….I love you baby brother.”
The Backstreet Boys star also set up a children’s mental health fund in the wake of Carter’s passing.
