'The Duskbloods'.

Bloodborne fans are very excited about the Switch 2-exclusive game The Duskbloods, with many considering it a spiritual successor to the action fantasy title.

Nintendo hosted an hour-long Direct yesterday (April 2) that revealed a bunch of new information about the Switch 2, which is coming June 5.

A number of iconic games were confirmed for the bigger, more powerful console including  Elden Ring, Split Fiction and Star Wars Outlaws. A range of exclusive titles were also announced, with Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong: Bananza and The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment set to be released later this year.

Perhaps the most surprising game announced during yesterday’s Direct was The Duskbloods. Developed by FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, The Duskbloods is a PvPvE title with “online multiplayer at its core” and up to eight players competing at once. It’s set for release at some point in 2026.

However a number of fans believe The Duskbloods is a spiritual successor to Miyazaki’s 2015 action fantasy game Bloodborne, and not just because of how often the trailer mentions the word “blood”.

“It’s about as close to Bloodborne 2 as you can get without legally calling it Bloodborne, as I’m sure it’s still tied up in Sony exclusivity,” one fan wrote on Reddit with other fans convinced the trailer was advertising a new Bloodborne title on first watch. “The aesthetic is damn near identical, the clock tower looked the same and had the same chime, and they mentioned blood and the moon like 20 times,” said another. Meanwhile on Twitter, a number of Bloodborne-inspired memes are being shared.

The original Bloodborne was released in 2015 and took influence from the works of fantasy horror authors Bram Stoker and H. P. Lovecraft. The PlayStation 4-exclusive game went on to sell over 7million copies and is still considered one of the greatest video games ever made, but a sequel was never made. The game celebrated its tenth anniversary earlier this year and fans were convinced Sony would announce a remaster, especially after they hinted something was coming, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The Dusklands wouldn’t be the first time Miyazaki has created a spiritual successor to one of his games. 2011’s Dark Souls was a loose follow-up to 2009’s Demon’s Souls, which itself was the spiritual successor to FromSoftware’s King’s Field series. Miyazaki is set to share more information about The Dusklands tomorrow (April 4).

In other news, Nintendo has confirmed that the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is definitely coming out later this year.
