AMD just renamed this top-end Ryzen gaming CPU to make it look newer
AMD has now officially lifted the lid on a new gaming CPU range for laptops, with the top AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX chip sporting 16 cores and a top clock speed of 5.4GHz. Don’t get too excited, though, as these new CPUs bear many similarities to their predecessors. In fact, the above CPU basically has the exact same spec as the Ryzen 9 7945HX. Indeed, this refresh of AMD’s Dragon Range laptop CPUs only appears to increase the clock speeds here and there (but not everywhere), and perhaps more importantly for marketing purposes, puts an “8” at the front of the model names. Nevertheless, we’re still expecting these AMD chips to be used in many of the best gaming laptop designs in the near future, as the specs are still solid.
