Affleck Talks His Hatred Of The Batsuit

Though they may look good on screen, superhero outfits are decidedly uncomfortable get-ups to wear for the various actors involved. The outfits are often heavy and made from materials that lock people into attire that’s hot, claustrophobic and rather restrictive in terms of movement.

One of the most famously tough suits to wear is that of Batman. Previously George Clooney has discussed how hard wearing the Batsuit was, telling British TV legend Graham Norton: “The suit’s brutal, you know? At the time particularly, it weighed like I don’t know, 60 pounds” and adding that for certain scenes he’s “bolted into this suit” and “can’t move.”

Now, Ben Affleck has spoken about the same thing and how difficult it was suiting up as Batman because it was so physically draining. Affleck, out promoting “The Accountant” sequel which hits cinemas on Friday, he tells GQ:

“I hated the Batsuits. The Batsuits are horrendous to wear. They’re hot for one thing. They don’t breathe. They’re made to look the way they want them to look. There’s no thought put into the human being. So what happens is that you just start sweating. I’m already – I sweat, you know what I mean? So in that thing, you’d just be pouring water.”

It just made it difficult to make the movie, because you’re so hot. It also does not make you feel very heroic, because you’re instantly exhausted and really sweaty. Maybe Christian [Bale] or Rob [Pattinson], guys like that, were just better at dealing with it.”

Affleck played Bruce Wayne/Batman across four films including “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League” along with briefly appearing in “The Flash” and “Suicide Squad”. The actor is now retired from the role with Robert Pattinson playing the current incarnation.
