Warners Sets “Minecraft” ‘Block Party’ Screenings

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that special ‘Block Party Edition’ screenings of “A Minecraft Movie” will be held on May 2nd and will encourage audiences to sing and talk along with the film. In a statement on the news (via THR), the studio invited fans to the celebration:

“Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures invite fans back to the theater to experience A Minecraft Movie together in a whole new way! You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it’s time to get loose, laugh out loud and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan.”

The movie famously drew headlines for bad behavior from audiences as certain sessions saw people, inspired by a TikTok meme, trashing cinema auditoriums over the film’s ‘chicken jockey’ moment.

Exhibitors issued warnings against unruly behavior and in some cases, notifying the police. They also opted to set up special screenings that allowed people to talk back to the screen, but those weren’t as organised or widespread as these ‘Block Party Edition’ screenings will be ” fully interactive” and allow for (bad) singing.

“A Minecraft Movie” set a box office record when it opened around the world to $313 million. The Jack Black and Jason Momoa-led film, based on the popular video game of the same name from Mojang Studios, is the year’s most successful Hollywood movie to date with $816 million worldwide, effectively double that of nearest rival “Captain America: Brave New World” at $414.8 million.
