Lotte Duty Free rides summer travel wave with luxury shopping drive

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free today unveiled its ‘Luxury Shopping’ campaign targeting customers preparing for overseas trips ahead of the busy summer holiday season.

The retailer is rewarding shoppers this summer with compensation for unfavourable exchange rates and up to KRW1.51 million (US$1,000) in LDF Pay on eligible fashion and watches & jewellery purchases from 1 May to 30 June.

In addition, customers can earn up to KRW1.69 million (US$1,180) in LDF Pay through a special double rewards event, running from the 1-6 May holiday period and every weekend (Friday-Sunday), depending on the payment card used.

Lotte Duty Free, in partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, is offering Korean shoppers a chance to win travel packages to Hawaii through a prize event worth KRW12 million (US$8,340).

Customers who spend US$300 or more at downtown stores are eligible for a chance to win one of the following:

• 1st Prize: A trip to Hawaii (one winner, including round-trip airfare and three nights each at the Renaissance Hotel and Waikiki Resort Hotel)
• 2nd Prize: A three-night stay at the Renaissance Hotel (one winner)
• 3rd Prize: A three-night stay at the Waikiki Resort Hotel (one winner)

With recent relaxations on duty-free liquor purchase limits, the retailer has launched its special LDF Spirits Curation event to be held every Tuesday of the month via its online store.

The event will showcase recommended summer daytime drinks, including Louis Roederer Champagne, Singleton and Ballantine’s whiskies.

It will also feature food pairing guides, highlighting Dassai sake, Johnnie Walker and second-label wines from Bordeaux’s five first-growth châteaux as the liquor of the month.

Lotte Duty Free has also launched promotions for foreign travellers during Japan’s Golden Week (29 April-6 May) and China’s Labor Day holiday (1-5 May).

From 1-11 May, customers who spend more than US$150 at downtown stores will receive a limited-edition WowPass Lotte Duty Free custom card.

Until 7 May, customers who spend at least US$500 using Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay at downtown stores will receive up to KRW100,000 (US$70) in LDF Pay.

A Lotte Duty Free representative said: “We have prepared this promotion to offer even greater benefits to customers travelling overseas during the upcoming summer holidays.

“We aim to ease the burden of high exchange rates and deliver a special shopping experience through various events.”
