“Thunderbolts” Drop One Of Marvel’s Best

Disney and Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts*” pulled in $9 million at the domestic box-office on Friday and is currently headed for a projected second weekend of around $35 million and a domestic total of $130 million by end of Sunday.

That’s a second weekend domestic drop of 53% for the Florence Pugh-led ensemble piece, one of the best drops (ie. smaller) for any MCU title and a vast improvement on the 68% fall for “Captain America: Brave New World”.

It’s slightly worse than “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (51%) but better than “Thor: Ragnarok” (53.5%), “Shang-Chi” (54%) and the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” (54%).

“Sinners” remains a force with $20 million in its fourth weekend, down 39%, and should hit $213 million domestically by end of Sunday. Its fourth weekend is fairly close to “A Minecraft Movie” in its fourth go around ($22 million). That film is in its sixth weekend now and will come in third place with $7 million and a running total at $408 million.

Fourth will be “The Accountant 2” which is heading for a $5.8 million third weekend and a total of $50.6 million domestically to date.

A trio of newcomers will take the fifth through seventh places with the critically well-received “Clown in a Cornfield” coming up top with $3 million, action-thriller “Shadow Force” next with $2.7 million, and the Josh Hartnett-led “Fight or Flight” last with $2 million.
