It has been a veritable bloodbath over at NBC today where five series, including several high profile titles, have been cancelled.
The most notable is “Suits: LA,” the high-profile spin-off of the USA Network’s frothy legal series that had a revival in popularity on Netflix two years ago. In the wake of that success, the network greenlit this spin-off which featured Stephen Amell in the lead.
Sadly no-one was biting with the series averaging just 2.35 million total viewers (with delayed playback). The upcoming first season finale on May 18th will now serve as the series finale.
The other high-profile cancellation is the “Night Court” revival, the network axing that show after three seasons after the most recent season saw a 36% ratings slip. That said, of the five this is the one with the best chance at being shopped around to another network or streamer.
Missing persons drama “Found” has been axed despite only dropping 13% in its sophomore run and averaging 3.9 million total viewers. The Jesse L. Martin-led “The Irrational,” was alaso cancelled after two seasons, despite dropping just 4% in its sophomore run and averaging 4.4 million total viewers.
Of the eleven dramas on the network, “The Irrational” ranked seventh, “Found” ninth and “Suits LA” tenth. The fates of the high-profile prisoner escapee drama “The Hunting Party” in eighth and “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” in eleventh place are yet to be determined.
Finally, the sitcom “Lopez vs. Lopez” has been axed after three seasons – the show has been averaging 2.33 million total viewers (with delayed playback), on par with last year. It ranked last in the list of sitcoms on the network with “Night Court” second last.
It’s not all bad news over at NBC though with popular long-running shows “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” renewed for Season 25 and 27 respectively.
