These New Puritans announce new LP ‘Crooked Wing,’ share Caroline Polachek collab “Industrial Love Song”

UK duo These New Puritans will release a new album, Crooked Wing, on May 23 via Domino. It’s their fifth album and first in six years, and they co-produced it with Bark Psychosis’ Graham Sutton, who also worked on Hidden and Field Of Reeds. Contributors include Caroline Polachek and jazz double-bassist Chris Laurence. “This album is both more surreal and somehow more direct than anything we’ve ever done,” says George.

With the album announce comes a double A-side single” “Bells” and Caroline Polachek collab “Industrial Love Song.” Both songs are lush and atmospheric, nearing lullaby territory, and feature choral arrangements, bells and other melodic percussion.

“‘Industrial Love Song’ is a duet between two cranes on a building site,” says Jack. “Caroline sings the part of one crane, I sing the other; they can’t touch (their movements are controlled by the operator), but when the sun rises they hope that their shadows will cross. I like how the title George came up with misdirects expectations – it’s not that kind of industrial.”
