Teaser Trailer: “Bullet Train Explosion”

Netflix has released the teaser trailer for “Bullet Train Explosion,” a new thriller from “Shin Godzilla” co-director Shinji Higuchi.

Based on a screenplay by Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Norichika Oba, the project is a remake of the 1975 film “The Bullet Train” but has also drawn obvious comparisons to Jan de Bont’s 1994 film “Speed”.

In the film, a bomb has been planted on the Hayabusa No. 60 bullet train heading toward Tokyo and will explode as soon as the train’s speed goes below 100 kph/62mph.

The terrorist behind the bomb demands 100 billion yen ($660 million USD) in exchange for deactivating it, while railway workers are thrust into a desperate race against time as they struggle to prevent an explosion and mass casualties.

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Kanata Hosoda, Non, Jun Kaname, Machiko Ono, Hana Toyoshima, Daisuke Kuroda, Satoru Matsuo, Suzuka Ohgo, Matsuya Onoe, Naomasa Musaka, Pierre Taki, Yajuro Bando, and Takumi Saitoh co-star in the film.

The project was made in collaboration with East Japan Railway Company and used actual bullet trains and railway facilities to achieve realistic visuals combined with visual effects.

“Bullet Train Explosion” is scheduled to premiere globally on April 23rd on Netflix.
