Summer H. Howell is nearing a deal to star in Mike Flanagan‘s series adaptation of Stephen King‘s “Carrie” for Amazon, Variety reports.

No stranger to horror, Howell made her acting debut as Alice in Curse of Chucky and reprised the role in Cult of Chucky. She has also appeared in Time Cut, Hunter Hunter, and Channel Zero: No-End House.

The show is described as “a bold and timely reimagining” of King’s 1974 novel, with Flanagan serving as writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer.

Misfit high schooler Carrie White has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

The titular role was previously played by Sissy Spacek in 1976, Angela Bettis in 2022, and Chloë Grace Moretz in 2013.

Filming is expected to begin in Vancouver next month, so expect more casting news in the near future.

Carrie marks Flanagan’s fourth King adaptation, following Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming The Life of Chuck. He’s also developing a series based on The Dark Tower.
