Sextile announce new album (hear “Freak Eyes”), on tour now with Molchat Doma

LA electro duo Sextile have announced a new album, yes, please, which will be out May 2 via Sacred Bones. Melissa Scaduto and Brady Keehn add social commentary to their gnarly bangers, and topics here include AI, abortion rights, the education system and more.

The first single from the album is “Freak Eyes” which Brady says is “about the pressures of making art, living, and aspiring.” He continues: “The sound was inspired by house parties we went to in NY, where certain tracks had the conversation stopping power. If you were in the middle of convo with a friend and heard certain songs, it didn’t matter what you were talking about, you stopped and joined the party in the collective release of emotion, singing, dancing, and drinks flying everywhere. It was like in that moment, nothing else mattered but that energy that we all collectively felt. And I felt like I hadn’t seen that at a party, or anywhere in a while, and wanted to try to bring that feeling back into the world again.”

Those party themes play into the “Freak Eyes” video, which was directed by Alfredo Lopez — watch below.

Sextile are currently on tour with Molchat Doma and have been previewing songs from the the new album. That tour hit NYC’s Knockdown Center on Valentine’s Day (check out pics) and runs through March 7 in Los Angeles. They’ve also got extensive dates in the UK and Europe this spring.
