The 2025 edition of Bang on a Can‘s Long Play Festival happens May 2-4, with 50 concerts staged at Brooklyn venues BAM, Roulette, Pioneer Works, Issue Project Room, Public Records, BRIC, The Space at Irondale, plus outdoor events and more. Festival passes are on sale now.
They’ve put together a very cool lineup for 2025, including Kim Gordon (playing solo and with Body/Head), Max Richter with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (performing The Blue Notebooks and In A Landscape), Tim Hecker, Nico Muhly, Foodman, Buke and Gase, Ben LaMar Gay Quartet, Mary Halvorson & Bill Frisell duo, percussionist and Vanishing Twin drummer Valentina Magaletti, Fred Frith, Henry Threadgill, and more.
The centerpiece of Long Play 2025 is a 90th birthday celebration for Terry Riley featuring multiple events including Pete Townsend, who will be performing “the original ‘free fall solo version’ of his signature tribute Baba O’Riley”; Bang on a Can All-Stars, premiering a new version of Riley’s A Rainbow in Curved Air, arranged by Gyan Riley; as well as Riley’s classic “In C” performed by an “All-Star cast” including Pete Townshend and special guests.
