“Gen V” and “The White Lotus” star Patrick Schwarzenegger was reportedly in the running to play Clark Kent/Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming reboot of the property.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked the actor if he had “done more than your share of superhero auditions in your career?”.
Schwarzenegger responded, saying: “No, I haven’t” before revealing he’d auditioned for three superhero roles to date – Homelander in “The Boys,” Golden Boy in “Gen V” and Superman for Gunn’s “Superman”.
In terms of the Gunn film, he says he didn’t get much further than submitting his self tape, saying: “I don’t think I got any feedback. I think it was like, ‘No, not for you.'”
Ultimately David Corenswet would go on to play the Superman role, while Schwarzenegger landed “The White Lotus” third season right after that.
He also reveals that since the COVID pandemic first hit, he hasn’t auditioned in person for anything bar two projects – “The Idea of You” which he lost to Nicholas Galitzine, and “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” in which he landed the role of Tim Tebow. Otherwise all auditions have been over Zoom.
