SAS exited Star Alliance and joined SkyTeam on September 1, 2025, when it completed its bankruptcy exit and Air France – KLM took a 19.9% stake.

Now, there is a new elite benefit available for SkyTeam Elite, Elite Plus + EuroBonus Gold and higher members available from April 23, 2025.

You can access SAS page for elite members here.

How various airlines and alliances deal with fares that include no bags varies.

BA’s no-bag fares include no bags, even for elite members, while similar fares on Finnair always include at least a bag.

No bag fares on other airlines, like Air New Zealand, include none, even for Star Alliance Gold and higher members. Their math is that 0 + 1 = 0?

This also used to be the case with SAS and still is until April 22, 2025.

SAS Go Light SkyTeam & EuroBonus Go Light Luggage Allowance:

SkyTeam Elite & Elite Plus = 1 bag (max 23 kilos)

EuroBonus Gold & Higher = 2 bags (max 23 kilos)

EuroBonus Elite Benefits Matrix:

Go Light Fares’s free bag(s) is not yet updated to this matrix.

Conclusion

This is a welcomed change that better aligns SAS’s benefits with SkyTeam and Air France – KLM’s Flying Bue (which EuroBonus will eventually merge into).

SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members get one bag, and EuroBonus Gold and higher members get two.
