Ryan Kiera Armstrong Lands “Buffy” Lead

“Firestarter,” “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” and “The Tomorrow War” actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong has landed the lead role in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” revival pilot at Hulu.

Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her iconic role of Buffy Summers in the as-yet-untitled continuation which is expected to focus on a new Slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role rather than a leading one.

The new take on the beloved supernatural drama will be directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao along with having “Poker Face” co-showrunners Nora & Lilla Zuckerman as writers and showrunners.

All three, Gellar, and longtime television executive Gail Berman serve as executive producers.

Gellar says in a statement: “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence , and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”

The project was originally announced at Hulu back in February and production offices were already set up by March. Gellar also shared a video on Instagram in which she tells Armstrong she got the role.
