Two Disney “Star Wars” alums, actors Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich, are set to team up for filmmaker Donald Petrie’s Philippines set romantic comedy “The Last Resort” for Asia Pacific Films. Filming begins next month.
Karen McCullah (“Legally Blonde,” “10 Things I Hate About You”) pens the script which follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father’s hotel empire and travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location.
There, she meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country – and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she’s built and the one she’s only just begun to love.
Petrie is a long-running rom-com director who has helmed films such as “Miss Congeniality,” “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days,” “Mystic Pizza” and “Just My Luck” along with comedies like the Whoopi Goldberg-led “The Associate” and “Grumpy Old Men”.
Ridley, who played Rey in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy. most recently starred in Martin Campbell’s “Cleaner” and was at SXSW for Zak Hilditch’s zombie survival thriller “We Bury the Dead”.
Ehrenreich, who played a young Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” is currently shooting Anton Corbijn’s “Switzerland” with Helen Mirren, recently filmed Zach Cregger’s “Weapons,” and will appear later this year in Marvel’s “Ironheart”.
