PS5 Might Get FromSoftware Switch 2 Exclusive Eventually

The recent reveal of FromSoftware’s Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods left some PS5 players disappointed, but we’ve received a glimmer of hope. A trademark filing in Japan has revealed that the IP is owned by FromSoftware, not Nintendo, which means that the game could eventually go multiplatform.

Given FromSoftware’s history on PlayStation and Sony’s stake in parent company Kadokawa Corporation, many expressed surprise that The Duskbloods wasn’t announced for the PS5.

Sony currently has a joint alliance with Kadokawa, the aim of which is to “maximize both companies’ IP value globally.” This includes Kadokawa’s anime and video game properties. While both companies are partners, we haven’t seen anything that suggests that FromSoftware is prevented from signing permanent exclusivity deals with other game companies.

We don’t know the terms of the developer’s deal with Nintendo, but as pointed out by a ResetEra user, The Duskbloods trademark filing reveals that it’s the property of FromSoftware, which means that it might not be locked down by Nintendo forever.

However, worth pointing out that if Nintendo has permanent publishing rights to The Duskbloods, this specific game might never release on other platforms. But Nintendo won’t have exclusive rights over future entries unless FromSoftware renews the deal.
