Gabrielle Union Joins Cast of Diablo Cody-Produced ‘Forbidden Fruits’

Jennifer’s Body and Lisa Frankenstein scribe Diablo Cody is set to produce the feature directorial debut Forbidden Fruits by Meredith Alloway, and Deadline reports that Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) has joined the already stacked cast.
Forbidden Fruits is currently in production now, with IFC Films and Shudder set to release in 2026.
The film is an adaptation of playwright Lily Houghton’s stageplay Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin and Through Her We All Die. Alloway and Houghton are co-adapting.
Forbidden Fruits follows “Free Eden employee Apple, who secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours – with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their ‘girl boss’ ways, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate.“
Character details remain under wraps, but Union joins previously announced cast members Lili Reinhart (“Riverdale”), Lola Tung (“The Summer I Turned Pretty”), Victoria Pedretti (“The Haunting of Hill House”), Alexandra Shipp (Tragedy Girls), and Emma Chamberlain.
“Forbidden Fruits grabbed me by the neck the very first time I read it,” Cody previously said. “It’s one of the craziest, most creative, beautifully bonkers projects I’ve ever worked on. I feel so lucky to be collaborating with Meredith and Lily, who have become heroes of mine in short order.“
The feature isn’t the only upcoming genre pic for Union; the actor was also recently announced to star in the New Orleans-set horror movie The Casket Girls from Anything for Jackson filmmaker Justin Dyck and Night at the Museum scribes Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant.
Producers on Forbidden Fruits include Mason Novick, Diablo Cody, Trent Hubbard, and Mary Anne Waterhouse. Charlie Traisman and Katherine Romans are execuive producing for Madhouse Films, alongside Casey Durant and Rachel Douglas from Range Media Partners.
