Focus Features has premiered the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s new film, the espionage dramedy “The Phoenician Scheme,” which opens in cinemas on May 30th.
Story details are under wraps but the film stars Benicio del Toro as Zsa-zsa Korda, one of the richest men in Europe who made his money in arms and aviation.
Having just survived his sixth plane crash, he arranges to bestow his estate to his daughter (Mia Threapleton) who is a nun.
Also onboard are Michael Cera as tutor Bjorn; Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis.
The film will be written and directed by Anderson, with Roman Coppola co-writing.
Anderson’s most recent work was 2023’s “Asteroid City:” and last year’s anthology “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More”. He’s garnered sixteen Oscar nominations and five wins to date.
